Day 293 – The Puzzle – Changes Are Here!

Changes are coming, or I guess technically already here, since I’m making this post:)

In June 2022, I decided to start podcasting every Monday through Friday, and by January 2023, I moved to Monday through Sunday.

Then, in April 2024, I decided to start blogging every day.

Today, I’m announcing that there will no longer be a “daily” blog or podcast. Instead, blogs and podcasts will occur as needed.

WHY?

In the past few months, I’ve created content to check the box rather than pouring my heart and soul into it. Some days, I’d spend 2-3 hours writing a blog post, and others, 5 minutes. The podcast had some similar moments. Some podcasts hit hard and can give you a great idea and homework that changes your business forever. And then others are just there to say, “I did it today.”

All is not lost, though, because this practice with the pen (err, keyboard) and microphone has given me more swings at the ball than anything else.  As I write this blog, it’s the 293rd in the past 10 months, and when you add that to the articles I’ve written for PMQ and a few others, that puts me over 325 times I’ve sat down and written about this journey and the restaurant business.  Of those 300,+ 200 or so had massive value.  Writing for PMQ is what really caused this insight for the blog.  You see, some of my blog posts were generated using AI from my other content for SEO.  And I felt guilty about that.  Yes, there’s a place for that content on my site, as it will help our company to be found more often.  But the blog should be me writing something impactful and pouring my heart into it.  That’s why the PMQ articles exposed this.  I spent 5-7 hours writing those articles.  A lot of thinking and research go into those, and I think that’s how every blog post should be.

The daily podcast has not changed as much as the blogging, but it will no longer happen daily. It will happen when the topic hits me, and something makes me go, “Wow! ” That might happen three times some weeks and seven others. The podcast has not taken as much of a wrong turn as the blog, but it could still use a little overhaul. I’ll still take a microphone with me wherever I go so that when the moment strikes, I can help all of you out.

It’s like today’s blog and podcast topic that I’m working on: B-2-B Restaurant Marketing.  This topic came from a long discussion with restaurant owners and hit me like a ton of bricks.  It deserves more depth in a blog and more emotion and FACTS from me in the podcast.

So, there it is. Change is here.

Let’s go!
