The Puzzle – This Weeks MP’s Minute

Confession time: I mentioned many weeks ago that I stole this whole “weekly minute” idea from Alex Hormozi. Well, this week, I’m even borrowing his topic from last week 🙂

Here’s the truth: when I read his line, “If you have a list of priorities, you don’t have priorities,” it hit me square in the face.

He’s right. Priority means first. Singular. There can only be one. Yet most of us, myself included, run around with MANY “priorities.”

Which really means we’re just spinning our wheels.

So this week, I want to challenge you (and myself) the same way Alex challenged me: what’s the one thing that, if you went all in on it, would make everything else easier… or irrelevant?

That’s your real priority. Everything else is just distraction dressed up as strategy.

And what’s the priority you ALL should have?

Based on the meetings I’ve had this past month, it’s GROWING YOUR SALES.

And guess what? This isn’t a new problem.

In fact, today’s example comes to us from May of 1952, from a man who would go on to create one of the largest fast-food chains in history.

That man is Jim McLamore, the co-founder of Burger King. And like you, he was in trouble… HE NEEDED SALES!

He’d moved to Miami to open a new restaurant, McLamore’s Brickell Bridge Restaurant. He made the decision while visiting his father-in-law in February, unaware that it was the busy season—and that summers were GHOST TOWNS.

The summer of 1952 would be his first in Miami, and his restaurant was empty.

What’s really funny is that his solution back then was exactly the same as it is today: ATTENTION with an OSG (Offer So Good).

More on Jim in a few minutes.

This week, like every week, I talked with many owners struggling with their restaurant’s sales. And the problem always boils down to one word: ATTENTION. Your sales would increase if more customers knew about your restaurant and had a reason to visit today.

For a new or lost customer, they need an OFFER SO GOOD—aka a bribe. They need a reason to change their habit of eating somewhere else, you know, like at the 10 Chipotles that have popped up in the past few years.

For your frequent customers, a reminder is all they need.

ALL of this is ATTENTION, and it comes in the form of either a new marketing message (like a Facebook ad) or a reminder email.

Now, back to Jim. In 1952 he had the same issue you have now. But guess what? He took action. He hired a kid to stand outside on the corner in a chef’s uniform and wave down traffic to tell them about a crazy steak dinner special. Then he ran a newspaper ad with the same promo.

On page 52 of his autobiography The Burger King, he states:

“Although I knew I couldn’t make a profit selling it, I did feel that I could build traffic, which was the most pressing problem.”

And then he used two words that most of you fail to use often enough:

“MY PLAN.”

Yes, Jim had a plan. Your plan, like most restaurant owners, is hope and pray.

Jim’s was an offer SO GOOD that people flocked to his restaurant. Then he delivered such an awesome experience that they came back in droves.

The only difference in 2025 is the medium through which you get attention. And here’s the last piece: simply delivering a great experience inside your restaurant isn’t enough today. Yes, it’s massively important, but competition is so fierce that you MUST get your customers’ contact information when making offers like this so you can control the marketing funnel.

Your plan right now is HOPE & PRAY.

I want to make it AIM & EXPECT.

Your “AIM” at your sales issue should be your only priority. And you need to attack the issue like Jim did—with a plan.

Then, after you get your score, let us know if you want to find out what it takes to ROCKET that score toward 100, email me back “ATTENTION” and let’s start a conversation.
